All S'port Up! High Schools Score Big
$50,000 Total Earned Among 16 High Schools

Big Island, Hawaii – May 30, 2008 – At the end of the six-week “S’port Up! to Support High School Sports!” program, sponsored by KTA Super Stores, Hawaiian Airlines and Sports Line, shoppers at KTA Super Stores and Waikoloa Village Market helped BIIF Athletics from participating high schools earn money just by shopping. Top earners included Hilo, Waiakea and Honokaa High Schools.

Residents stepped up their game the past few weeks in order to help their favorite schools earn a portion of a $50,000 total.  Half of the money earned will go towards sporting equipment and the other half will go towards inter-island travel.

“With fewer choices for inter-island airlines, this program becomes that much more valuable for high school athletic departments needing funds to travel to the outer islands,” said Ken Yamase, Executive Director of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation.

In a joint effort between KTA Super Stores, Hawaiian Airlines and Sports Line, the program encouraged shoppers to purchase participating products to earn points for their favorite high schools.  The program ran from February 27 through April 8.

“This was the second year of the S’port Up! program and as always, we received tremendous support from the community,” said Tracey Yamane, KTA Super Stores’ Marketing Manager.  “We proudly support each high school and are happy they can put their much-deserved money to good use.”

Products from the following vendors helped shoppers earn points:  Coca-Cola, Frito Lay, Gatorade, Kellogg’s, ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Banana Boat, Hawaiian Sun, Love’s and Procter & Gamble.

Last year, KTA Super Stores also donated $50,000 through the “S’port Up! Support High School Sports!” program to Big Island high schools.
