Only Two Weeks Left:  S'port Up! Helps High Schools Raise Funds For Travel and Sports Equipment
KTA Shoppers Can Still Help Their Favorite High School Athletic Teams

Big Island, Hawaii –  March 24, 2008 – Shoppers at KTA Super Stores and Waikoloa Village Market, the Big Island’s largest and oldest grocery store chain, have just two weeks left to help schools win money for their favorite high school athletic teams.

In a joint effort between KTA Super Stores, Hawaiian Airlines and Sports Line, the 2nd Annual “S’port Up! Support High School Sports!” program encourages shoppers to purchase participating products to earn points for their favorite high schools.  The program began on February 27 and runs through April 8.

“We’re proud to support local high school sports in our community,” said Tracey Yamane, KTA Super Stores’ Marketing Manager.  “We had so much positive feedback from the athletic directors, coaches, students and the community, that we knew we had to continue the program this year.”

Each KTA Super Stores and Waikoloa Village Market cash register has a list of participating high schools with a designated number for each school.  Shoppers write the number of their favorite school on the back of their receipt to hand in to the cashier.

At the end of the program, KTA Super Stores, Hawaiian Airlines and Sports Line donates $50,000 that is divided among 16 high school athletic departments.  The schools that earn the most points receive the largest percentage of the $50,000 total.  Each of the participating schools receives a minimum of $500 ($250 for travel, $250 for equipment).

Products from the following vendors are eligible for shoppers to earn points in the program:  Coca-Cola, Frito Lay, Gatorade, Kellogg’s, ConAgra Foods, General Mills, Banana Boat, Hawaiian Sun, Love’s and Procter & Gamble.

Last year, KTA Super Stores donated $50,000 through the “S’port Up! Support High School Sports!” program to Big Island high schools.
